About Katie's workshops

I offer poetry workshops in any setting, both with adults and with children/young people in key stages 1-3 (age 5-14).

I have a warm, accessible approach, making poetry less intimidating by encouraging participants to relax conventional approaches. I use highly imaginative (and fun!) exercises, which enable participants to surprise themselves, and those around them, with their ability to write.

I often use objects or other resources as a starting point and can work to a particular theme or subject matter if desired.

I also offer 'creative consultation' techniques that enable participants to explore underlying issues/questions and express their views in a creative and non-threatening way, which can often be more productive than using formal consultation methods.  I have extensive experience of community consultation with a wide range of groups through my consultancy work.

I am very happy to work alongside or in collaboration with artists in other disciplines.

Testimonials

'Relaxed, informative & productive, supportive of both the students' & teachers' needs.  Given the time & the nature of the day, the input was spot on & it helped to focus the students & inspire to produce some very positive work'.
Sally Cox, Deputy Principal, Guthlaxton College

'...very supportive and helped the children to share their ideas with confidence'
Emma Horstead, Creative & Cultural Ambassador, Ravenhurst Primary School [part of 'Where Next' event]

'Thanks for providing such a stimulating writing environment.  Lots of good ideas - thank you!'
Nikki Woollard, Education Officer, Ashby de la Zouch museum

'The introduction was great, it set the children in a good frame of mind.  As well as the poetry the children learned some of the local history.  We all enjoyed it very much.'
Heather Twigg, Teaching Assistant, Ashby C of E Primary School, Ashby de la Zouch

'I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and having the opportunity to see some fascinating objects.  Katie Daniels provided some interesting ways of using these and I liked her gentle approach...  I gathered lots of ideas for writing about things which might never otherwise have occurred to me; and learned something about my writing process, which is always useful.  I'm now mulling over ideas for two possible poems...'
Joanna, 'Behind the Scenes' participant at Ashby de la Zouch museum
